Mapping election results

Just a quick post about a small project I've been working on this weekend! I've made a zoomable, colour-coded map of the EU referendum result, broken down by constituency.

Actual commentary on the map would be a bit belated at this point, but it's interesting to confirm visually that Remain won in most urban areas and to see the stark division at the Scottish border. But the good thing is that I can now make maps like this pretty easily, which may come in handy.

EDIT: I've now made an interactive version! (Note that on slower connections it may take a while to load)

Data and code for making these maps can be found here, if you're interested. It was much more straightforward to do than I had expected. Along the way, I found that the British Electoral Survey have published the motherlode of political data, a spreadsheet with hundreds of columns of demographic and political information for every GB parliamentary constituency (the only shortcoming is that it lacks information for Northern Ireland, so at some point I will have to dig that up).

In the end the trickiest thing turned out to be hosting the map online! Fortunately I got a tip that I could set up a GitHub Pages site, which I think could be useful in future.
